Two years ago today, Cardi released “Drip” as a promotional single for her debut album. It was written by Cardi B, Quavo, Takeoff, Offset and Joshua Cross, with production handled by Cassius Jay and Nonstop Da Hitman.
The song was made available for digital download alongside the reveal of the album’s full track listing. The song’s beat was originally used for an unreleased Young Thug and Future song titled “Upscale” which also featured Quavo.
“Drip” received mixed reviews from music critics. Lyrically, the artists hit back at critics who have attacked them.
Aside from Cardi’s part in the song, it’s really of the few songs from “Invasion of Privacy,” that I really could’ve lived without. As much as I respect the Migos and Offset, (who was Cardi’s fiance) during that time, I just wasn’t feeling this song, and couldn’t really get into it.
While the song itself has gave some great captions, such as, “Came through drippin’,” “quick to drop a n*gga,” “is she a stripper, a rapper, or a singer,” and my personal favorite line, “you not my b*tch, then b*tch you are done!” While this was a promotional single and did fairly decent, it probably wasn’t the reaction that Cardi and the Migos were expecting from the audience. The only thing I could say about this song is that this really could’ve been a solo Cardi rap song.
Depending on how you looked at it, 2019 was a pretty good year for Bardi. It might not have been as a BIG of a year like 2018 was with the release of her debut album, ‘Invasion of Privacy.’
We were still able to be fed throughout the year with a slew of a decent number of features. One of those features include, “Clout,” with Cardi’s husband and group member of the Migos, Offset. “Clout,” ended up being the second single from Offset’s solo album, ‘Father of 4, which released on March 15, 2019.

The song initially charted following the album’s release, it reached the top 40 of the US Billboard Hot 100 after the release of its music video in April 2019. It received a nomination for Best Rap Performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards, marking Offset’s first nomination as a soloist outside of Migos.
The song is a criticism of those who use others for fame, including social climbers or “clout chasers”, with the lyrics calling out those who have “the IG disease”.

“Clout” marks Offset and Cardi B’s fifth collaboration, following “Um Yea”, “Lick (Remix)”, “MotorSport” and “Drip”.
The music video was announced by Cardi B on April 16 and released on April 17, 2019.
It features Offset and Cardi B delivering their verses in a yellow and black hall of mirrors. Cardi B is also shown in a pile of lemons and giving a lap dance to Offset.
Cardi and Offset both performed “Clout” at the 2019 BET Awards, along with a performance of “Press”. Offset and Cardi also performed “Clout” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on July 17, 2019.
I loved the beat to “Clout,” and while Offset did what he had to do with the track, once Cardi started, she showed up to talk cash sh*t. She has so much personality, charisma, and presence and she completely dominated and took over Offset on this song, that I forget that this was Offset’s song, and Cardi is just a feature.
It’s officially her song. You really listen to “Clout” for Cardi’s verse. Sorry, Set. Still it’s a solid record and it was probably my favorite verse and feature that Cardi was in from last year. Cardi’s verse just has so many quotables, that deals completely with what’s going on in social media today. It’s a tough society we live in where people don’t pay for information, but, gotta get those clicks these days. She had such a dirty flow on here, and she has understandably just about had it with these blogs that put out fake news and I don’t blame her!
What was your favorite song from ‘Father of 4,’ and was it “Clout,” and if not, what was your favorite Cardi feature that came out of 2019? Please, let me know in the comments below!
According to music news account on Twitter, BHudsonIFPI, the Cardi and Offset collab, “Clout” from Offset’s solo album, ‘Father of 4’ is now eligible for 3X PLATINUM in the United States (3,000,000 units: 82k digital sales and 437m streams).
The Grammy nominations has just been announced, and not only has Cardi been nominated, but also her husband and member of the Migos Offset has been nominated for the 2020 Grammy award. The husband and wife rap duo has been nominated for their collab song “Clout,” that came out from earlier this year on Offset’s solo project, ‘Father of 4.’ It was the second single to come from the album.
2020 Grammy nominations for “Best Rap Performance” also include: “Middle Child” by J. Cole, “SUGE” by DaBaby, “Down Bad by the Dreamville camp, “Racks in The Middle,” by the late Nipsey Hussle.
As of this nomination, Cardi becomes the FIRST female rapper in HISTORY to receive 3 nominations in the “Best Rap performance” category at the Grammys (excluding previous sub-category nominations):
2017: Bodak Yellow
2018: Be Careful
2019: Clout

Despite having no album release in 2019 and only a few features/songs released, Cardi B is nominated for the 2020 #GRAMMYs 👑
Congratulations Cardi! 🥳 🎉
Today marks the Two Year Anniversary of the Migos collab song “Motorsport,” with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. It was released on October 27, 2017, as the lead single from Migos’ third studio album Culture II. The song reached number six on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Migos’ second top 10 in the country. It is also one of the many female collaborations to reach the Hot 100’s Top 10 of this decade:

“MotorSport” marks the first time Migos, Minaj, and Cardi B have worked together on a song; although Offset had already collaborated with Minaj on London on da Track’s “No Flag”, and with Cardi B on her own track “Lick”.
On October 25, 2017, radio station Hot 93.7 confirmed that a collaboration between Migos, Minaj, and Cardi B would be released two days later. On October 26, the night before its release, Migos previewed the track on Power 105.1’s music celebration, Powerhouse.
Soon after it was released, Joe Budden from Everyday Struggle speculated that Kanye West was originally on the song and that he’s the one who actually pitched the idea of getting Minaj on it. It was also rumored that Minaj and Cardi B were dissing each other on the song, which both rappers denied.
Minaj commented on the rumors saying that the song was originally only a collaboration between her and Quavo, that she was “in full support of Cardi B’s ‘Motor Sport’ feature” and that “the conspiracy theorists are just so tired”, while Cardi B said that “people wouldn’t be satisfied even if [we] was making out” and “I don’t really have the time”
Both Cardi B and Nicki Minaj’s verses received positive reviews. Editors from Billboard noted Cardi B’s line “trap Selena” as an “ambitious statement.”

Cardi’s verse won Best Featured Verse at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards.
irected by Bradley & Pablo and Quavo, the music video was released on December 6, 2017 on Apple Music. It was made available on YouTube the next day.
Cardi B verse follows and she’s fierce to say the least. From the jump, she’s sexed up, referencing the penis right out the gate. Definitely unapologetic.
All in all, “Motor Sport” is Migos being Migos, which is always a compelling experience. It’s well produced, while all five MCs involved drop captivating rhymes. There’s no glaring cons to be found, so indulge in the sport of it all.
